A full-size and fully equipped mock up of the en-suite was constructed to enable the design to be tested in use.
Testing the en-suite mock up
The mock up was tested by a range of people, including:
  • Ambulant people
  • Rollator users
  • People using crutches
  • Independent wheelchair users
  • People requiring assistance from nursing staff (including the use of hoists).
Each person was asked to comment on the relative ease or difficulty in using the facilities, including the door, WC, wash basin, shower, grab rails, waste bins etc. The results of testing were used to further refine the design.
